MISSION

  • Agri-logistics is critical to the development of the agriculture sector, but it has not received adequate attention so far. This is now changing, especially with the Union Budget 2020-21 laying special emphasis on the creation of an efficient logistics framework for the sector.

  • A number of favourable measures have been announced. The most noteworthy among these is the initiative to create a seamless national cold supply chain. To this end, Indian Railways will set up Kisan Rail on a PPP basis. It will also deploy refrigerated coaches in express and freight trains.

  • Agriculture warehousing has also received a lot of attention. The government has proposed the provision of viability gap funding for setting up warehouses at the block level. The development of warehouses on a PPP basis has also been proposed. The creation of an e-portal of geo-tagged and WDRA-compliant warehouses integrated with e-NAM is a welcome move as well. This will ensure better pricing through improved information exchange

  • An interesting budget announcement is the launch of Krishi Udan by the Ministry of Civil Aviation on domestic and international routes. The aim is to unlock value in the north-eastern region and make the sector a part of the global supply chain.

  • That said, agri-logistics is still a highly underdveloped area in India. While there are a number of issues and challenges, there are also many opportunities.

  • Together, these steps spell substantial opportunities for stakeholders across the agri-logistics supply chain. The soon to be rolled out National Logistics Policy will also have a far-reaching impact on the sector.

  • The mission of this conference is to deliberate on the needs and requirements for a comprehensive agri-logistics framework, highlight the key trends, developments and recent initiatives in the segment, examine new opportunities, and discuss the key issues and concerns. The conference will also showcase noteworthy solutions and best practices.
