  • India’s data centre ecosystem is witnessing robust and sustained growth, propelled by Covid-19 tailwinds. The increasing adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as IoT, AI and big data analytics across industries, coupled with a massive distributed remote workforce and rising cloud migration, are fuelling the growth of the industry.
  • The onset of 5G services is also contributing to this growth. 5G technology makes it vital for setting up edge data centres to process data closer to the source. The industry is also witnessing a shift from on-premise to hyperscale data centres that meet the requirements of the dynamic business world.
  • Further, the government’s norms on data localisation, seeking storage of sensitive data within the country, isemerging as a key growth driver. In particular, the recently released DigitalPersonal Data Protection Bill, 2022isexpected to enhancedata centre growth.
  • As per industry estimates, the total operational data centre capacity inIndia stood at 637 MW as of June 2022, comparedto just 350 MW in 2020. The capacityhas doubled in the past 30 months and isforecast to double again in the next 30months, that is, by 2025.
  • In terms of regions, Mumbai and Chennai, together, will account for 82 per cent of the new capacity additions.Currently, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has more than 30 data centres and five landingstations with 314 MW of inventory. A total of264 MW of data centre inventory with acumulative area of 3 million sq. ft. isunder construction. Withthis, Mumbai is projected to account forover 57 per cent of the industry’s incremental data centre capacity build in thecoming three years.
  • While the anticipated growth in capacities fares well for the industry, it also puts immense pressure on power requirements as industrial data centres are amongst the biggest consumers of power in the country. As a result, the concept of green data centres is gaining traction and several sustainability focused innovations are being explored by industry players.
  • The mission of this conference is to analyse key trends in the evolving data centre market in India, discuss emerging business models and challenges, and assess new and upcoming opportunities. The conference will also provide a platform for key industry stakeholders to share experiences, exchange ideas, and showcase the latest innovations and technologies.
