In the past few years, information technology (IT) usage and penetration in the waste management segment have grown significantly with the deployment of innovative technology solutions. The technology revolution is presenting urban local bodies (ULBs) with many new possibilities and opportunities. IT systems such as geographic information system, SCADA, RFID-based smart bins, geo-tagging and vehicle tracking systems have been deployed for
better control and monitoring.

Further, the capabilities of ULBs in segregating, recycling and reusing waste have been strengthened. The level of private participation in the sector has also continued to increase. ULBs are recognising and practising recycle, reuse and scientific disposal concepts. The government too is making concerted efforts to improve waste management practices under its flagship schemes, such as the Smart Cities Mission, the Swachh Bharat Mission and AMRUT.

Indian Infrastructure is organising a webinar to enable the exchange of information and knowledge in the area of smart waste management by utilities, the initiatives under key government programmes, the private sector experience and potential, emerging technology solutions, and key issues and challenges. The webinar will give participants an opportunity to hear from key stakeholders. We hope that the webinar/video interaction will provide a platform for a very useful exchange of information and ideas.

The webinar will have two components:

  • A 30-minute interaction with a senior representative of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on the smart waste management projects and plans under the Smart Cities Mission, the progress achieved so far, upcoming opportunities and the potential strategies to fast-track implementation. It will also provide an opportunity for participants to seek clarifications and make suggestions.
  • A 70/75-minute moderated panel discussion among urban local bodies, private operators, a leading sector consultant and a technology player.

The panel will address questions such as:

  • What are the specific initiatives for smart waste management in key cities? What has been the implementation experience and the key learnings?
  • What are the key smart technologies and solutions adopted for waste collection, transportation, processing, treatment and disposal?
  • What are the new and emerging requirements of utilities? What are the future plans?
  • How has been the experience of private operators in the smart waste management segment? What are the key sources of revenue and returns?
  • What are the key strategies being considered to fast-track project implementation?
  • What are the biggest issues and challenges?

The fee per login is Rs. 3,000 plus 18 per cent GST for Indian participants and USD 50 for overseas participants.
