  • The city gas distribution sector is expected to be one of the key drivers forthe increased share of natural gas (15 per cent) in India’s energy mix by 2030. The sector is expected to see investments of around Rs 1.2 trillion over the next few years with authorisation of new GAs under the 11th round as well as the operationalisation of awarded GAs.
  • With the increase in demand, it is becoming important for CGD companies to invest in digital technologies and work out their digital transformation plans to maximiseoperational efficiency and monitor their assets with greater precision. Today, digitalisationis becoming an important part of CGD business processes, ranging from network planning, engineering, operations and maintenance to complete management of network assets.
  • Many CGD players such as Gujarat Gas Limited, Indraprastha Gas Limited, Adani Gas, Mahanagar Gas Limited and GAIL Gashave deployed technologiesthat have enabled them to enhance the customer experience while making their operations more efficient. Some of the advanced solutionsinclude SCADA, GIS andreal time customer dashboards. In addition, there is tremendous focus on solutions that enable remote control or predictive maintenance to extend the life or operating efficiency of assets. In this context, digital solutions such as big data and analytics, internet of things, cloud computing, and smart sensors are gaining traction. The increasing deployment of advanced IT-OT convergence solutions is helping companies monitor their critical assets in realtime.
  • That said, the Covid pandemic has further strengthened the case for digitalisation. Going forward, CGD operators need to focus on the challenges of a digital world and address the concerns around data security and change management to ensure that their response practices are more aligned to a digitally controlled environment.
  • The mission of this conference is to discuss the experience and challenges in technology adoption, highlight the progress of CGD companies with regard to digital transformation and identify the new and emerging requirements. The conference will also showcase best practices as well as the most promising digital technologies and solutions.
